"A commitment to excellence."
As you probably are aware, choosing a college is no easy task. Fortunately for me, my mind was made up at an early age. Carolina blue came into my life at a young age and it seemed as though my mind was totally made up.
In the 7th grade, my high-school team went to a University of North Carolina summer team camp. After having a good showing throughout the camp, I quickly became very fond of the university. After the camp was over our team went to Franklin Street to shop. I went into this shop named the Shrunken Head Boutique and it has been my favorite shop ever since. It is a little shop rammed full of UNC clothing and accessories. Anyways, while I was shopping, my mom and I were discussing the camp and how much fun I had. I remember looking at her and saying, "Mom, I think I am going to play here." Of course I was just this little tiny kid saying that I was going there, but I really believed it and made it come true.

After dedicating most of my life to this game, I was determined to become the best that I could be. I wanted to be big time and become the clutch player that everyone could count on. Throughout high school, I elevated my game each year to become the all around player. After all that hard work, it quickly was starting to pay off.
My sophomore year, my high-school team went to play in the Holiday Invitational Classic in Myrtle Beach. We ended up winning that tournament and I was the first sophomore to ever be named the most valuable player. After that tournament, my coach, Steve Helton, told me that he spoke with Tar Heels coach Sylvia Hatchell and she loved the way I played. I thought to myself, "Great, if I can get her attention as a sophomore then I can become great." Letters poured into my mailbox almost daily from different schools which were interested. I was never satisfied because I never got that Carolina-blue envelope. We finished our season at the state tournament at the end March. Shortly after that, I was signed up to attend elite camp at UNC during the middle of June. I continued to work on my game by adding new moves, becoming quicker and shooting daily. Before I knew it, it was June.
I got to the camp and applied everything that I had worked on that year. I was doing really well and at the end of the first day, coach Hatchell came and introduced herself to me. She said, "I knew that was my No. 15 from Scott County." She then was telling me how she had been after me since the Myrtle Beach tournament and how excited she was to have me there. So, after hearing that, I was pumped the rest of the camp. Finally the last day had come and it was time to leave. After the awards session, coach Hatchell told me she wanted to meet with me and my family back at the dorm. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous.

I walked into the dorm's cafeteria and I saw the coaching staff sitting around this table. My family and I sat down and they offered me a full scholarship. It felt like I was totally dreaming. I just wanted to say, "Someone please pinch me because this is unbelievable. How could I be committing to UNC at the age of 15?" Then I replayed in my mind how hard I had worked and that I had earned this.
For those of you who are trying to choose a college, I know it has to be complicated and hard. As long as you keep working hard, good things will happen and everything will fall into place. You have to dedicate yourself if you want to be the best. Receiving a full scholarship is a major accomplishment and it is also an honor. If you already have committed or signed, don’t think that this is the end of working hard. This just means you have to work even harder and make yourself better. It is up to you to decide your destiny. If you want to play in college then the time to prepare is now. Always remember that there is always somebody out there getting better. I am living a dream and I want everyone to have a chance to experience life as a collegiate athlete. Hard work, determination, and never being content will take you far in life.
On a different note, we played three games in four days last week. It was tough, but we made it and we are still alive. Monday against Georgia State I made five of eight attempts from the three point line. It was exciting to find my groove again. There still is plenty of time to get better. As for now, I am enjoying our few days off and taking advantage of eating a whole lot. I hope everyone has a great break and Happy Turkey Day!
"Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe."

Until next time, stay cool and keep ballin' ya’ll.
