Hill Investigation Update

Posted Mon, 03/24/2008 - 17:37 Update on the progress of the investigation in Minneapolis by police into the threats against Tayler Hill.
Minneapolis Police are investigating the harassment and threats made to a Minneapolis Central High School girl’s basketball player prior to the state championship game. The player is Tayler Hill, the star junior guard who is one of the best players in the country and ranked No. 12 in the 2009 class by HoopGurlz.com.
“The case is being investigated by our assault unit,” Sgt. Bill Palmer of the Minneapolis Police Department said. The police department is not taking any risks and is treating this as a serious assault threat. On-campus police have been alerted of the situation and are taking steps to assure Hill and the rest of the student’s safety while the investigation continues. Sgt. Palmer said the investigation is moving forward and at this time they are waiting for phone records that were subpoenaed to proceed. Despite the way things are portrayed in the movies a typical cell phone trace can take three weeks to a month to be processed. The court orders may request the process to be expedited by the cell phone carrier’s department that handles these requests but they are typically dealing with these requests in the thousands. When the records are received the police can move forward with the investigation. The calls started late Friday night, March 14, with voicemails being left on Hill’s cell phone. The messages threatened to hurt her prior to the championship game against rival St. Paul Central High School. Another call around 4 a.m. Saturday March 15, took the threats a step further and threatened to kill Hill. The calls originated from the 651 area code, which is tied to Central Minnesota and the greater-St. Paul area. Despite the threats, Hill played in the game. She was held to nine points in a narrow defeat though she told South’s Athletic Director Mark Sanders that it didn’t affect her game. She averages 22 points per game.
