FCP Top 25 - 1/31
By Glenn NelsonHoopGurlz Publisher
Posted Thu, 01/31/2008 - 07:24 The Top Nine did not change, but could after No. 5 St. Regis travels to No. 13 Highlands Ranch in a colossal Colorado clash.

Alyssa Fressle and coach Caryn Jarocki lead Highlands Ranch into a big
game against St. Regis this coming week.
The top nine stayed where they were this week, but Hinsdale Central of Illinois jumped into the top ten after beating in-state rival Buffalo Grove.
The big game this week, though, is in Colorado: No. 5 Regis Jesuit travels to No. 13 Highlands Ranch on Feb. 5. Get your tickets early for the 7 p.m. start – the gym will be packed.
1. Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco, Calif.) 19-0 (1): The Irish are back on the court after dealing with the tragic shooting of a parent and, basketball-wise, they’re back where they were. They rolled through the last week, beating three good teams (a combined 44-16 record) without any undue exertion.
FCP Top 25
1. Sacred Heart (CA)
2. Long Beach Poly (CA)
3. Notre Dame Academy (VA)
4. Murry Bergtraum (NY)
5. Regis Jesuit (CO)
6. St. Mary’s (CA)
7. Wichita Heights (KS)
8. Centennial (MN)
9. Ben Davis (IN)
10. Hinsdale Central (IL)
11. Cardinal O’Hara (PA)
12. Dunbar (KY)
13. Highlands Ranch (CO)
14. Sapulpa (OK)
15. Midfield (AL)
16. Winter Haven (FL)
17. Lakota West (OH)
18. Heritage Christian (IN)
19. Archbishop Wood (PA)
20. DeSoto (TX)
21. Oak Ridge (TN)
22. Bellaire (TX)
23. Roosevelt (MD)
24. Gentry (MS)
25. Hope (IL)
2. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, Calif.) 15-2 (2): The Jackrabbits avenged that rivalry loss to Millikan, 55-42, as Jasmine Dixon had 19 points and 16 rebounds. Credit also must go to April Cook, who held Courtney Clements to just nine points.
3. Notre Dame Academy (Middleburg, Va.) 19-2 (3): The Dragons jumped out to a 19-point first-half lead over Archbishop Wood of Philadelphia, but then had to hang on to record a 54-45 victory. Josette Campbell, usually an understudy in Notre Dame Academy’s star-studded cast, came through with 14 points in this one.
4. Murry Bergtraum (New York, N.Y.) 15-0 (4): The Blazers got a big win against H.D. Woodson of DC, one of their few intersectional games this year after a major tournament was cancelled. But there are doubters who wonder just how good Bergtraum is considering their lack of elite opponents, including Woodson coach Frank Oliver, whose team played in the Nike TOC in Phoenix.
5. Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) 14-1 (5): The Raiders move up a spot, and also had some good news as junior Mary Bokenkamp verbally committed to Texas Tech. Regis Jesuit may have as many as seven 2009 players who will wind up with Divison I scholarships.
6. St. Mary’s (Stockton, Calif.) 21-0 (6): The first time the Rams played McNair, they won 120-42. The two teams play again Tuesday – the scorekeepers better be ready. St. Mary’s also knocked off Branson, the defending small school California champion, 77-53 on Saturday.
7. Wichita Heights (Wichita, Kan.) 13-0 (7): The Falcons didn’t play this week, but still moved up a spot. In an unusual note, their top scorer, Amanda Orloske (19.4 points) decided to play Division II at Pittsburg State rather go the Division I route. Of course, former Heights coach Lane Lord is now the main man at Pittsburg State.
8. Centennial (Circle Pines, Minn.) 17-0 (8): The Cougars outscored last week’s two opponents 186-72, but like other unbeaten teams with no significant wins, one loss could drop them right out of the top 25. That happened to Murrah of Mississippi and Shabazz of New Jersey this week.
9. Ben Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) 20-1 (9): The Giants have only one regular-season game left, against one-time power Brebeuf, which has drifted back to the pack. But the Indiana playoffs will be a tough road, with lots of quality teams.
10. Hinsdale Central (Hinsdale, Ill.) 24-1 (25): The Red Devils vault into the top ten on the strength of a 47-43 win over previously No. 13 Buffalo Grove. Sophomore point guard Toni Kokenis had13 points for Hinsdale Central, which has lost only to Fenwick – which lost to Buffalo Grove.
11. Cardinal O’Hara (Springfield, Pa.) 15-1 (17): The Lions move up thanks to convincing win over Bishop McNamara of Maryland, one of the many strong teams near Washington DC. Stephanie Holzer led the way with 20 points, 18 rebounds and an amazing 13 blocked shots.
12. Dunbar (Lexington, Ky.) 23-1 (24): The Bulldogs made a pair of statements last week, first knocking off previous No. 10 Heritage Christian of Indiana 47-41, and then beating intracity rival, powerhouse Lexington Catholic, 62-49.
13. Highlands Ranch (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) 12-3 (15): The backcourt of Alyssa Fressle and Meagan Fulps drives the Falcons, who have two easy games before facing off against Regis Jesuit Feb. 5.
14. Sapulpa (Sapulpa, Okla.) 16-1 (15): Only one win last week for Oklahoma’s best, which should coast until postseason. Once there, though, there are several teams that could make life hard for the Chieftains.
15. Midfield (Midfield, Ala.) 23-0 (18): The Patriots let Jemison score 66 percent more points in their second game of the season – but no one was that upset. It was 93-5 last week and 97-3 the first time around. More important is Friday’s matchup against Jones, which has lost only twice this year.
16. Winter Haven (Winter Haven, Fla.) 24-1 (NR): As the season goes along, losses are avenged, and perspective is gained. The Blue Devils knocked off Lake Mary, the only team to beat them, last week, and an early season win over Rock Bridge of Missouri looks better and better as Rock Bridge keeps on winning. Thus, Winter Haven jumps in at 16.
17. Lakota West (West Chester, Ohio) 17-1 (19): The Firebirds have played a tough schedule, but will coast into the Ohio postseason – which will be, as always, highly competitive. The state champion will earn it.
18. Heritage Christian (Indianapolis, Ind.) 19-1 (10): The Eagles’ 3-2 matchup zone worked pretty well against Dunbar of Kentucky, but the defensive-oriented game went to the hosts, 47-41. Heritage Christian got a taste of home cooking: Dunbar took 21 free throws and the Eagles’ just eight.
19. Archbishop Wood (Warminster (Pa.) 17-2 (12): The Vikings won the second half against Notre Dame Academy, but couldn’t overcome an early 19-point deficit – and so drop behind Lakota West, a team they lost to earlier in the year. Rosie Tarnowski had 12 points against NDA.
20. DeSoto (DeSoto, Texas) 30-1 (23): The Eagles will have a chance for revenge next Tuesday, as the only team to beat them, Duncanville, comes to DeSoto. Sydney Carter, though, will need to have a big game.
21. Oak Ridge (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) 21-1 (22): The Wildcats have avoided the intense rivalries in the middle of Tennessee, and have not lost to an in-state opponent. The playoffs, though, will tell the tale.
22. Bellaire (Bellaire, Texas) 32-1 (NR): The Cardinals move into the rankings in part because of the continued strong play of Seton Keough of Maryland, which Bellaire beat back in December. Of course, having 32 wins and a loaded roster doesn’t hurt either.
23. Roosevelt (Greenbelt, Md.) 10-1 (NR): The Raiders move back into the rankings, despite a relatively limited number of games. Their talent can’t be denied, and the only loss is to Notre Dame Academy.
24. Gentry (Indianola, Miss.) 26-0 (NR): The Rams replace Murrah (which lost a league game) as the Mississippi representative, but they’ll be tested Friday at Oxford, which has lost only three times.
25. Hope (Chicago, Ill.) 22-1 (NR): The Mighty Eagles lost only to Missouri power Incarnate Word back in November. They also beat Martin Luther King of Michigan, one of the better teams in that state.

Wow, what a game!! The place was packed with 2000 people, what an atmosphere! Highlands Ranch defense was near perfect with the shooting from some great talent. Highlands Ranch didn't give Regis a chance with a 74-49 win over Regis.
