After a long week of hard work, we earned Saturday off. We had another one of those early 6 a.m. practices on Friday. After we completed that and our classes, we were off until Sunday at 2:30 p.m. So, being college students, a couple of us decided that we would get out of Chapel Hill. That is one thing you will learn in college - things will just pop and sometimes you just run with it. Our destination was Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Friday after my 1 p.m. class, we loaded up and headed down to the beach. It was the two managers from the team and of course me. Catharine Greene and Brianna Carbonell are the best managers you will ever find. Cat is a senior and Bri is a junior and when they leave, they will be missed very badly. Anyways, it was not a long trip at all. We arrived in Myrtle Beach around 8:30 that night. It felt so good to be out of the college atmosphere.
Cat has a beach house in North Myrtle and I absolutely fell in love with it. It was so cute and it was not little at all. I was surprised to find that it had three bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen and everything else. So, we took showers and fixed ourselves up and went out for a night in Myrtle Beach.

The next morning we woke up and took a walk on the beach. It was so beautiful! The beach is my absolute favorite place to go and relax. As a child, my family always took summer vacations to North Myrtle and it has always been my favorite spot ever since. With all the stress and pressures that college can sometimes put on you, it is important to step away and find yourself again. The beach was my place of rescue. It is so relaxing that you just can’t help but to give your mind a rest. After the beach we visited Hamburger Joe’s.
This little hamburger joint was very cozy. The walls were wallpapered in one dollar bills that people had colored their names on and other decorations, etc. There was so much money on those walls! I ordered the best hamburger that I had ever had in my life. Not too much grease, but enough to keep it juicy and two toasted buns. Slap on some pickles, mayo, ketchup, and you have the perfect burger. After devouring lunch, it was time to go back to Chapel Hill.
Cat had to do something for church on Saturday evening, so that’s why we were leaving so soon. We got back to the Hill around 4. Even though it was a short trip, it was well worth it.
Our team has been working very hard to get every little detail perfect. We have added a lot of plays, press breakers, defensive sets, and a lot of other things. Our first exhibition game is Wednesday vs. Premiere Players. Their roster is pretty much former college players such as Leah Metcalf (UNC) and Sidney Spencer (Tennessee). It will be a good test for us, so we have been preparing. When I say preparing, I mean a lot of different things. It has been the little things like watching film of our practices to see our mistakes, all the way to scrimmaging against our practice team. Our practice team is made up of all guys who attend UNC. They can play ball and they make us better. Playing against guys will make you mentally tougher and will give you more physical confidence. It is no secret that playing at the level that we play on is tough, so we are taking every step necessary to be ready.
There is a lot to do in these next couple of days. I know that I will be very busy and excited at the same time. It is an exciting time in every college basketball players’ life. This is all somewhat new to me so, I am taking it all in and just running with it. It is almost game time; are you ready?
