You now can call me Aunt Bee! It was possibly one of the most exciting moments in my life when I got to hold my niece in my arms for the first time. On Thursday March 13th, I finally became an aunt to Ella Elizabeth Howard. She was seven pounds six ounces and came out with a head full of blond hair. Maybe I am just biased, but I think she is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen. I have already started to spoil her and she is just a few days old.
This past Christmas, I bought my sister a few outfits for Ella and she was not even due for a few more months. I knew before she was even born that I was going to be attached to her. I was right because as soon as she came out, I already felt a love that I know can only grow. My sister wanted me in there for the birth and that was my first time seeing anything like that. When a baby is born, all I can say is that it really is a miracle.

I had to come back to Chapel Hill on Sunday for our practice at 7 p.m. I packed my things that morning and had breakfast with the family. My mom, dad, grandparents, and Mason were there during the week. So, when it came time to leave it was really hard to actually say goodbye to everyone. It felt like I was just getting comfortable with my surroundings and then it was time to leave already. But, there are some things you just have to do in life and I have a job to do in Chapel Hill.
Sunday’s practice went very well as did Monday’s. Monday night was the NCAA selection show for the tournament. The team met at a place called Tyler’s. This is the place that coach Sylvia Hatchell has her weekly radio shows and she invited the whole team this time. Every time a player would walk in, the packed house full of fans would cheer and go crazy. It was wall-to-wall with people wearing Carolina blue, or green for St. Patrick’s Day. The show started at 7 p.m. and everyone eagerly waited as we watched the bracket begin to fill up. We got the No. 1 seed in the New Orleans bracket. The place went crazy!
I couldn’t even hear what they were saying on the television because the fans were so loud. That is OK because my dad was smart and recorded it so we could watch it again at home. Every time our fans heard anything about UNC, they went crazy. It was a really fun atmosphere to be apart of. Having both the men’s and women’s team being a No. 1 seed here at UNC, the fans have a lot to be proud of.
The show finished up a little before eight and that’s when the radio show began. It was the last radio show for this year and coach Hatchell had seniors Erlana Larkins and Latoya Pringle as guest speakers for the show. As the radio show was going on we got to eat our meals. I believe those were the best chicken strips I have ever had! Now, you cannot just order a meal without dessert, especially if you aren’t paying for it. So I ordered an Apple Betty with two scoops of ice cream to top off my night. Again, it was really good and after the radio show was over it was then time to go.
It has been a very exciting week for me. One that was full of new experiences and a new addition to my family. We are headed to Norfolk, Va., on Friday and we play Sunday at noon. It is time to pack our bags again and prepare for each battle that comes our way. It is now officially March Madness and I know everyone is catching some of it.
"Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best."
