The spring viewing period gave us a chance to reevaluate many players as well as see many new players for the first time. In the past we’ve offered just a preliminary ranking and a final at the end of the summer. We now hope to revise the rankings several times a year, after the high school season, after the spring viewing period, early June and after the summer evaluation period.

HoopGurlz was at both the Boo Williams Invitation and the Deep South Classic during the spring evaluation period, and saw some great performances that moved us to revise our rankings. The biggest move was made by Nneka Ogwumike of Houston, who played so well against the top frontcourt players at Boo Williams that she is our new No. 2.

Shenise Johnson of Henrietta, N.Y., impressed so much with her combination of size and athleticism for the guard position that she moves up into the Top 10. We overlooked Ashley Corral of Vancouver, Wash., in our initial top 25, but the Washington State 4A tournament reminded us that she is among the best pure point guards in the country and is slotted at No. 16. Speaking of point guards, Samantha Prahalis of Commack, N.Y., moves into the rankings at No. 20.

This is our current ranking of only the players we have seen play. We do not rank players based on referrals from other services or coaches, but do try to evaluate deserving players as soon as possible. We head off next to Colorado Springs for the USA U19 try outs, to Irvine, Calif., for the West Coast Showdown, and to Nike Midwest Showdown in Mason, Ohio, and after those viewings we will revise the rankings one last time heading into the summer.
