NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Rumors have swirled that Kristi Kingma of Mill Creek, Wash., had reopened her recruitment, but that isn't entirely true.
Kingma, the No. 46 overall prospect in the 2008 class, verbally committed before the the summer to the University of Washington which at the time was coached by June Daugherty. Washington did not renew Daugherty's contract and hired Tia Jackson, formerly a Duke assistant.

One of Kingma's club teammates, Katelan Redmon, signed a letter of intent this fall to play at Washington, prior to Kingma's verba,l and at first was not going to go to Washington. She since has re-confirmed her commitment to Washington. Kingma is waiting to do so.
"Going to Washington is still my dream," Kingma said. "I just want to make sure I fit in there still."
Kingma was adamant about the new coaching staff not just accepting her commitment to the old regime. She wants it to her play this summer and believing in her. In Memphis at the River City Classic she injured her shoulder. It was diagnosed as a sprained rotator cuff with two partially torn ligaments in the same shoulder. However, doctors told her it was nearly impossible for her to injure it any worse.
"Washington really hasn't had a chance to see me play that much," Kingma said, "so I just decided I'd play through it."
Her father, Gregg Kingma, said until they hear from Washington that they really want her to be a Husky that they were going to keep her options somewhat open, which includes Gonzaga which was second on her list when she committed to Washington earlier this year.

Yvonne Anderson thinks like a coach's daughter, which is no wonder, since her father, Mike, is head men's basketball coach at Missouri. The point guard for The Family displayed her genes when she made a going-for-it-all drive with 2.3 seconds left that ended a classic, 84-83 double-overtime victory over the Cal Swish on Sunday morning.

"I knew I had to score," said Anderson, who scored 30 points against Georgia Elite during the night session. "They came at us with a man defense, I saw the lane, they cut me off, so I made a spin move. Either I was going to make the shop or get free throws."
Anderson appeared to take a header, but nevertheless ended up with two free throws, which she downed.
The Family, which rallied from 17 points down, also relied on free throws to get into each extra period. Skylar Diggins continued her rampage with a team-high 22 points. UCLA commit Atonye Nyingifa scored 28 points for the Swish, which is without point guard TJ Goddard, who injured a knee in Oregon City, and starting center Kristen Riley, who is Mormon and does not play on Saturdays.
RIM SHOTS
- Shawna-Lei Kuehu, the No. 24 overall prospect in 2008, is suited up for the Cal Storm here in Nike Nationals and has even warmed up with her team prior to each game. She suffered an ACL tear last fall and is now recovered. She is not playing as a precaution at this point but just seeing her on the court and shooting in warmups has most of the colleges that are recruiting her perked up. She went almost the entire summer without a single point but thanks to a technical foul on the DFW bench Sunday she was able to shoot two free throws and made them for the Cal Storm.
- Lynetta Kizer, the No. 1 ranked post in the 2008 class, wears "R.I.P Chavis" and "No. 12" on her sneakers in remembrance of a friend, Chavis Harris, who died of cancer. She will wear his No. 12 jersey number when she enrolls at Maryland in the fall of 2008.
- DaShena Stevens, a standout forward from Stamford, Conn., and player for the surprising NYC Gauchos has updated her schools list to Boston College, Georgetown Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Rutgers and St. John's.
